Abstract

In today's digital age, education is seen more as a utilitarian purpose. This trend causes justified concern for the future of man as a being, first of all, a social, cultural, and spiritual being. The authors of the article, referring to the heritage of the Second teacher of the East Abu Nasr al-Farabi, reveal the rich deep philosophical meaning of the concept of "education". Al-Farabi considered education and upbringing to be interconnected. This tradition originated among the ancient Greeks as a certain model of upbringing "paideia" and was reflected in the concept of "adab" in the medieval Muslim East.

The philosophical and pedagogical teaching of al-Farabi is extensive and includes many aspects of theoretical and practical philosophy. According to al-Farabi, the goal of any education is a person's knowledge of himself, in order to achieve perfection, and hence happiness. Having reached perfection, a person not only becomes happy, but also makes others happy. In education, the thinker clearly highlights the political aspect. Education is a part of upbringing, and the whole path of a person to perfection is the upbringing in him of high moral qualities, allowing him to be an example for others.

The universality and timelessness of the philosophical and pedagogical teachings of al-Farabi are shown by the authors of the article by comparing and analyzing his ideas with the ideas of the ancient Greeks, French enlighteners, representatives of German classical philosophy and various post-classical movements of the 20th century. Al-Farabi's ideas are consonant with the spirit of modernity, are of practical importance and open up great opportunities for those who can find innovative applications for them.

Key words: al-Farabi, philosophy of education, upbringing, person, perfection, happinesss.
