The role of OSCE and security issues in Central Asia
Abstract
The 2014 Ukrainian-Russian crisis is wider than the conflict between the West and Moscow. It is capable to increase the risk of escalation of conflicts in the CIS space. Among them - the situation around Transnistria, settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, instability in Kyrgyzstan, etc. In the field of energy security, the potential for conflict exists around issues such as the creation of new energy transportation corridors. Various transportation routes that would connect the Eurasian space should be constructed to address security concerns. Opening of transportation communications, improvement of interstate transportation infrastructure are to be great potential for cooperation. Geo-economic activity of Kazakhstan in this direction should concern, in particular, the implementation of the «Western Europe - Western China», «North-South» transcontinental transport corridors’ cooperation, also a significant contribution to the stability and sustainability of our region.
